Mark and Kim Giles, now have two depots, one in West Melton and also in Kaikoura they have owned and operated Cabins2u for over four years now.

Formally known as Houseme, Kim explained "I thought, we've got the room to store them and the man to fix them, so all I have to do is find people to rent them".

The "man to fix them" is Mark, an engineer. Kim has previously been involved in sales and marketing and says she was curious about the business of renting and selling portable units.

Excited about being in the microbuilding industry, they brought their daughter, Amanda, into the business too.

"A lot of units are used for farm worker accommodation and they're also ideal for people wanting a home office or to run a business from their home," Kim says.

"In the past, we have had beauticians, hairdressers and nail technicians rent our units."

"Our sleepouts are wider than some of our competitors' at 3 metres wide, so they are quite spacious. People are using them as baches or as temporary accommodation for elderly or family guests."
